Personal safety tips
- Recognise and avoid potentially risky situations - be aware.
Have a safety plan. Think about what you would do if you
felt threatened.
- Keep your valuables on your person or lock them away.
Never leave personal items unsecured or unattended.
- Use only well lit paths and do not walk alone.
- If you are waiting for public transport at night stay as
close as possible to well lite populated areas. Know your
time table to avoid long waits.
- Telephone for taxis rather than hailing them; if possible
have someone see you off; keep a note of the taxi number, sit in
the back seat on the opposite side to the driver all windows on
leaving your car. Consider installing an immobiliser.
- Carry your university ID card at all times while on campus
and be prepared to produce it to Security personnel if
requested.
- Consider purchasing a personal alarm
- A mobile telephone helps you feel more secure
- Know the telephone numbers of Campus Security
