Personal safety tips

  • Recognise and avoid potentially risky situations - be aware.  Have a safety plan.  Think about what you would do if you felt threatened.
  • Keep your valuables on your person or lock them away.  Never leave personal items unsecured or unattended.
  • Use only well lit paths and do not walk alone.
  • If you are waiting for public transport at night stay as close as possible to well lite populated areas.  Know your time table to avoid long waits.
  • Telephone for taxis rather than hailing them; if possible have someone see you off; keep a note of the taxi number, sit in the back seat on the opposite side to the driver all windows on leaving your car.  Consider installing an immobiliser.
  • Carry your university ID card at all times while on campus and be prepared to produce it to Security personnel if requested.
  • Consider purchasing a personal alarm
  • A mobile telephone helps you feel more secure
  • Know the telephone numbers of Campus Security
  • Be aware... take care.  Help us to help you.
