Best conference paper
Fiona Wheeler, PhD student in the Tourism Research Unit, was awarded "best conference paper" for her refereed paper presented at the 2nd International Conference on Destination Branding and Marketing (DBM)
Macao SAR, China, 17-19 December 2007. Fiona's paper, "Local Challenges to Regional Destination Branding: A Case Study of North East Victoria, Australia," was presented in the final session of the conference, and stimulated some great questions and discussion, and turned out to be a fitting end to the conference, as it provided empirical evidence of many of the issues that had been discussed and debated throughout the preceding days of the conference.
This was Fiona's first conference paper so it is most impressive that she won this award. It is also notable that Fiona wrote the first draft of this paper for last year's writing-for-publication workshop run at Berwick campus by Carla Taines with assistance from Brian Cooper, Donna Buttigieg and Lionel Frost.
Congratulations to Fiona, the workshop team, and Fiona's supervisors Betty Weiler and Warwick Frost.
