Monash Berwick launches High Fives program for 2007

Over 60 of the region's brightest Year 11 students visited Monash Berwick recently to participate in the first session of the High Fives program for 2007.

Students from Beaconhills College, Cranbourne Secondary College, Eumemmerring Secondary College, Kambrya College and St Francis Xavier College attended a mini-lecture delivered by Faculty of Arts academic Andrew Padgett.

The topic, "Reality TV, Gossip, and Tabloid Journalism: Does the mass media help or hinder democracy in Australia?" generated interesting and lengthy debate between students.

Feedback was very positive with many students indicating that they are looking forward to the next session of High Fives which will take place in late July.

The next session will be delivered by the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Advertise your event on the plasma screen in the 901 foyer

The plasma screen in the foyer of Building 901 is in full working order. It is in a highly visible location and is extremely effective in communicating messages to students and campus staff about upcoming events, promotions or any other important information.

Promoting your message or event is simple. Create a PowerPoint slide and send it to Campus Marketing Manager, Karen Petersen karen.petersen@adm.monash.edu.au who will organise for it to appear on the plasma screen.

It usually takes 24 hours for the slide to appear. Please include in your email the date you wish the slide to go up and when you would like it removed. For further information please call 9904 7005.

Open Day is on the way

Planning is currently underway for Open Day 2007 which will take place on all Monash metropolitan campuses (including Berwick) on Sunday August 5th from 9am to 3pm. Free shuttle buses will transport visitors to different campuses so that they can experience everything that Monash has to offer.

Campus Management, the Monash Union of Berwick Students (MUBS) and faculties are in the process of determining how best to show off the wonderful Berwick campus to prospective students, their parents and others who want to take a peek.

The call for Student Ambassadors was a successful one with over 30 Berwick students applying to help out on the day. Successful candidates will be notified in the next few weeks and will begin training soon after.

Watch this space for further Open Day developments.
