Monash Berwick launches the 10,000 Steps Walktober Challenge 2007
Staff at Monash Berwick recently attended a launch to kick off the Wellbeing at Monash Top End 10,000 Steps Walktober Challenge 2007.
The Monash Top End 10,000 Steps Walktober Challenge 2007 starts on Monday, 15th October 2007, as a virtual walk from Cape York Peninsula to Katherine Gorge National Park finishing on approximately Sunday, 25th November 2007. Participants are encouraged to join teams of 8 (led by a team captain) which can consist of Monash staff, their family or friends, or students.
As a guide, to achieve 10,000 steps in a day, participants will need to couple their usual daily activities together with a 30 minute daily walk. The number of steps walked per day can be counted using pedometers which will be included as part of each participant's challenge kit/envelope.
Team progress will be monitored by the challenge co-ordinator and team captains, who will also be responsible for encouraging their team members to reach their daily goals. To assist, weekly progress postcards will be sent to all team captains via email. In addition, to boost enthusiasm, there will be prizes for campuses, teams and individuals.Inquiries can be made to OHSE on 9905 1016
The team from the Faculty of Information Technology at the Berwick campus (pictured above) showed off their muscles at the launch and positioned themselves as "the" team to beat at Berwick.

In One Piece - Learner Driver Forum a success
Monash University Berwick teamed up with Youthlinx from the City of Casey to organise the In One Piece - Learner Driver Forum.
In One Piece was aimed at learner drivers and their parents from the City of Casey. Approximately 30 people attended the event which included presentations from Professor Thomas Triggs from the Monash University Research Accident Centre (MUARC), Leading Senior Constable, collision investigator Roz Wilson from the Victoria Police Major Collisions Unit and Vic Roads psychologist Antonietta Cavallo.
Our very own Pro Vice-Chancellor and Academic Director Professor Phillip Steele was the Master of Ceremonies on the night.
Overall, the event was a huge success with organisers receiving lots of positive feedback from attendees. In One Piece provided learner drivers and their parents an insight into how to drive safely to avoid collisions and information on the new graduated licensing system being introduced by Vic Roads during 2008.
Both the City of Casey and Monash University Berwick hope to team up again in 2008 to organise another In One Piece - Learner Driver Safety Forum for learner drivers in the area. Free showbags from the evening are available by contacting Campus Marketing Manager, Karen Petersen on 9904 7005 or karen.petersen@adm.monash.edu.au

It's a wrap! Shooting complete for the Berwick Campus Orientation DVD
By Rhiannon Murray Year 10 Kambrya College work experience student
Recently, every Monash University campus filmed orientation DVDs to introduce new students to their home campus.
The two geniuses behind all the ‘glitz and glamour’ of Monash DVD making are part of the Uni Audio-Visual Production Unit. Mark Warren, Director and camera operator extraordinaire alongside Rob Pignolet, trusty soundman. Both Mark and Rob approached the idea with strong enthusiasm and vision to make the Berwick campus stand out.
The film was lead by two Monash Berwick students, Tammy van Exan and Steve Corney. Feeling confident and ambitious in the morning, the two started the shooting with strong energy and persistence. Gradually as the day wore on, the team became restless.
I couldn’t blame them after filming the intro, outro, Café, Book Shop, Library and Learning Commons, Health, Wellbeing and Development, Facilities and Services and the Student Lounge just to name a few.
Of course, a quick sit-down and lunch ensured that everyone’s stamina was up to scratch. So as the final scenes, where shot and after making sure every detail was perfect, the team were both exhausted and relieved that the filming of what should be the best damn uni DVD this year was, over and done with.
However, not everyone’s job is finished,
I’m referring to the hard-working Mark and Rob who over the next few weeks will not only be editing Berwick’s Orientation DVD to make it perfect, but also doing the same for every other campus DVDs to ensure that they are both fun and exciting for hopeful students.
Thank you to the team and everyone who participated because im positive it will turn out to be spectacular.
