Berwick Campus News – Monday 7 AugustNewsBerwick welcomes 1000 visitors on Open Day
About 1000 visitors were greeted by student ambassadors and invited to tour the campus before they visited faculty booths and displays to explore course options. Many visitors commented that they liked the small size and friendliness of the Berwick campus and the first-class modern facilities. A rock band of four Monash students played in the courtyard near the free barbeque provided by the Monash Union of Berwick Students. Free fairy floss and popcorn were popular for young and old and family groups enjoyed a snack in the new café off the main foyer. The steady stream of visitors right throughout the day meant that future students were able to received personalised attention and advice, which exit surveys showed was highly appreciated. More Photos from Open Day 2006 Creating a postgraduate community The Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA) recently held a forum on Berwick campus to identify and address the needs of Berwick postgraduates. Postgraduates, academics and administrative staff met with representatives from MRGS (exPERT seminar series), Careers and Employment and MPA. While there are currently only 25 postgraduates at Berwick, it was acknowledged that it is very important to establish the groundwork for academic and social support services that cater to the specific needs of postgraduates. The group came up with proposals to run postgraduate-specific seminars on a number of topics including writing and editing, and careers and employment, as well as discussing a wide range of topics from childcare to postgraduate common space. The next forum for postgraduates will be held by the MPA in semester 2 this year. To be kept informed of postgraduate events, subscribe to the MPA email news. Good guy award Counsellor Rhondda Curtis would like to give a personal 'good guy' award to lecturer Mark Power in the Faculty of Information Technology at Berwick. "It's for generous help and technical wizardry in transforming an old amateur tape into a spiffing new meditation CD for students," Rhondda said. "He has my sincere thanks."
