COMMUNITY FITNESS EVENTS

Monash University Campus Life and Professor Phillip Steele - Academic Director Berwick launched the Community Fitness Events program on Thursday 25 August at Berwick Campus. The event program will include:

  • The Melbourne Marathon Festival - Sunday 9 October 2005
  • Cycling - Around the Bay in a Day - Sunday 16 October 2005
  • The Portsea Swim Classic - Saturday 21 January 2006
  • The 2005 Singapore Marathon

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY – TRAINING AT BERWICK

The Equity and Diversity Centre is providing the following training at Berwick:

What: Equal Opportunity: What you need to know
When: Wednesday 31 August, from 10am - 1:00 pm
Where: Tutorial Room 1140

Aims: To inform staff and students of their rights and responsibilities under Australian equal opportunity legislation and to explain the University's policies and procedures. The implications for Monash of the Disability Discrimination Act will be explored in detail.

Outcomes: For participants to understand the complex nature of equal opportunity issues, how discrimination, sexual harassment and vilification may be experienced and how best to respond when difficulties arise. The need for confidentiality, the importance of ensuring natural justice and the challenges of dealing with conflict will be specific foci of the training.

The Berwick Campus Careers and Employment Office in Room 189 has reverted to the following hours for the remainder of 2005:

    Business owners consider providing excellence in customer service as a key employability skill. This is an opportunity for you to understand the need and to gain the skills.

  • Jobseeker Workshop - CONFIDENT INTERVIEWING
    How to prepare for an interview in order to give the best possible response to questions.

SMART PROGRAM

Andrew Marks and Rhondda Curtis, our campus Counsellors, will again be offering the SMART program this semester. This is designed to assist any student having difficulties with study issues and covers Strategies for Success, Motivation, Attitude, Stress Reduction and Time Management.

The program will run over four days.

TIME: 1PM – 2PM

INFORMATION SESSION ON QUALITY AUDIT - BERWICK CAMPUS

Monash University is being audited by the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) in 2006. Professor Graham Webb, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Quality) and Robyn Harris, Quality Adviser, CHEQ will be holding an information session on Thursday 8 September, from 1pm - 2pm in Lecture Theatre 133, Building 901 at the Berwick campus for staff and students interested in learning more about the quality audits.

The seminar will cover:

*Background to AUQA and HEQC
*What the audit involves
*Monash preparations so far
*How staff and students can be involved

There will also be the opportunity for participants to have their questions answered. Additional sessions have been scheduled for all other Victorian campuses and further information on these sessions can be obtained from the CHEQ website at http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/cheq/audit/audit-fora-info.html



ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Congratulations to Lauren Godridge, who is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Business and Commerce / Bachelor of Communication at Berwick Campus.  

Lauren was presented with an award certificate and a cheque of $500 as the Faculty of Business and Economics nominee for an Achievement Award sponsored by Berwick Rotary Club at a recent dinner.

Lauren was accompanied to the dinner by Lyn Whelan from the Department of Management, who commented on Lauren's positive focus and determination to succeed. "Lauren sets high goals for herself and is an inspiration to others at Berwick, both staff and students. She always gives credit to others ahead of herself and is a worthy and deserving recipient of this achievement award."



MUBS END OF YEAR BALL

All Monash Berwick staff are invited to the End of Year Ball.

Date: Saturday 15 th October 2005
Time: 7.00 pm – 12.30 am
Place: Carlton Crest Hotel.

Three Course Meal includes: Sparkling, White & Red Wine, Beer, Soft Drink, Vodka, Scotch, Whiskey, Baccardi, Tea, coffee and orange juice.

$75 for Monash students
$85 for Non-Monash students

($30 non-refundable/non-transferable deposit required upon booking. Photo Identification required at the door.)
