This year's winner of the Herb Thomas Memorial Trust Award for the most outstanding final year Journalism student is Luke Holmesby. The Award is presented every year by Rotary Club on behalf of the Herb Thomas Memorial Trust. The Trust was established to honour the editor and publisher of the Pakenham-Berwick Gazette who died in 1979. Each year Victorian tertiary institutions running programs in journalism, graphic design and print are asked to nominate candidates for the awards and those candidates are then taken through an interview process to decide the winners. The other nominee for Monash was Megan Malbon who was also commended for her work. |
Presentations of the Award are made at a dinner organized by the Trust and hosted by local branches of the Rotary Club. This year the Endeavour Hills club hosted the awards night. In Luke’s acceptance speech he gave credit to his father, family members, and girlfriend who had provided such strong support for his studies. Luke’s father, the current editor of Inside Football, had been particularly inspirational in his Luke’s desire to develop as a sports writer and commentator.
Industrial relations is again at the top of the Government’s political agenda. Having secured a majority in the Senate, the Government is in an unparalleled position to implement reforms which have been blocked over the last nine years.
Professor Julian Teicher, Head of the Department of Management at Monash University, will discuss the implications of these reforms for employees, unions and employers, both big and small, at an upcoming breakfast seminar to be held at Monash University’s Berwick campus.
The seminar is the first of a series of breakfast and evening seminars to be hosted by the Monash University Berwick Business and Education Group (MUBBEG).
The group was established to promote collegiality among business leaders and education leaders, encourage synergy between Monash Berwick Campus, local schools and the business community and maintain regular contact and information sharing through business breakfast seminars and evening forums.
The first MUBBEG Business Breakfast for 2005 will be held on Friday, 17 June at 7.00am at Monash University Berwick. For further information or if you would like to attend the breakfast please contact Judy.parker@buseco.monash.edu.au via email or ph: 990 47081.
On Friday 3 June 2005 Monash International held its Future Success Program for completing international students for Semester 1, 2005. This program enables students to wear graduation gowns and to share the excitement of "almost" finishing their Degree with their Australian friends and the Berwick Academics and staff. |
This is an opportunity to celebrate on their home campus especially if they will not be returning for their actual graduation ceremony. The event was well supported by staff and students. We would like to wish the students well in their upcoming exams and all the best for their future.
